Does ps4 keep downloading stuff while in sleep mode

I've got all options check, got PS+, ps4 is primary with my account. Yet it does not download anything automatically while on rest mode. Last friday I turned it on when I got home and a bunch of updates notifications' appeared. If I put it back in rest mode it will download all the updates. I can usually game online whilst the PS4 is downloading because it has enough bandwidth leftover. That's only when a game is running though.
