It's not a Chrome extension, though. It's a full program that supports a ton of sites. A lot of people are saying youtube-dl. jdownloader2 uses that. youtube-dl is a command line tool and not easy for most people to use. There's a simple frontend for it, but it isn't very good and crash prone. Checking the in-app task manager shows that the browser itself is hogging the resources.
